Few artists have impacted pop-culture like The Beatles. As rock stars, they redefined pop-music by blending genres and introducing new recording techniques in the studio. Among their numerous musical accomplishments, the Beatles held the first five slots on the Billboard Singles chart During the week of April 4, 1964; they went on to sell more than a billion records; and 2000's 1, a compilation of the Beatles Number One hits, hit Number One in 35 countries and went on to become the best-selling album of the 2000s. As celebrities the individual Beatles shaped the look and feel of the Sixties, personifying that decades’ youth movement. As Rolling Stone Magazine said: “[The Beatles] were unmatched innovators who were bigger than both Jesus and rock & roll itself.”
June 25th marks Global Beatles Day “honoring and celebrating the phenomenon and ideals of the Beatles, collectively and individually, for their gifts to the world including, but not limited to, their promotion of peace and love, of truth and youth, and of the expansion of human consciousness. More specifically, GBD commemorates the Beatles music – their promotion and expansion of rhythm and blues, rock and roll, world music… and especially their collective and personal exploration of a myriad of musical ideas and innovations.”
